Inspired by a blend of traditional and contemporary Asian aesthetics, this gong has a graceful, fluid design. A polished 10-inch brass gong hangs from sweeping arcs of ash wood, and produces a deep-throated harmonic ringing as it is rung by the round, rubber-edged striker. Secured with black nylon strands, the Emperor Gong is weather-resistant, measures 34-1/2 by 13 inches, and, in addition to providing calming wind-music, is useful for signaling the start of dinner or meditation. Musician Gary Kvistad founded Woodstock Chimes in 1979, and today the family-owned company produces a wide range of handcrafted, precision-tuned chimes. The "Woodstock Percussion EGC Emperor Gong" is beautiful to look at, but when it is windy out, it is very annoying to listen to.

As someone who has experience in Eastern and Western cultures, I found this gong to be beautiful and totally authentic in its rich sound of the Far East. (In fact, it's made in China!) I also think its graceful design truly captures the culture's splendor. I've seen it sold elsewhere at the full list price and understand it's always a best-seller! And it's very durable!

The Emperor Gong chime looks great and sounds interesting and pleasant. It isn't loud like a gong, but more delicate. The tone is unlike any other chime I have. I gave one as a gift and they loved it.

Have had this gong hanging in 3 different places outside my house...even in the strongest of wind, it doesn't gong. The whole thing blows, but, never does the striker actually hit the gong. Save your money!
