Our basic white porcelain rice bowl has a Zen like simplicity. Aside from chopsticks, the 4" rice bowl is perhaps the most ubiquitous dining tool in China. Historically, in China's rural expanses, a dining table was a luxury item. So the populace commonly uses a small rice bowl that fits easily in the palm of the hand. The 4" bowl is perfect for noodle or rice dishes. The subtle pattern on the bowl is created by grains of rice that are left in the porcelain mold before the bowl is fired. In the kiln the rice disintegrates and leaves tiny windows of thin, almost translucent, porcelain in the body of the bowl. It is a simple production method that has elevated Chinese dinnerware from the plain to the ornate for centuries.

The bowls are much prettier than the picture shows them to be. They're unique and blend well with any dish pattern on the table. I haven't placed them in the microwave but have read that microwaving is o.k. Product arrived earlier than scheduled and was packed extremely well; it showed that much care was placed into making certain the bowls arrived without a scratch. Very pleased with this choice.

These bowls are prettier than the photo shows. Just the right size bowl to hold in the palm of your hand. Perfect for a smaller serving size. We use them for rice, soup, condiments, dipping sauces like salsa, etc. They stay cooler in the microwave than other bowls I have owned. And the price is certainly right! After searching asian and export stores, nothing came close to this deal.

I ordered these looking for a relatively cheap bowl set for daily use. They hold up and have yet to disappoint me. Seriously a good bang for the buck in my honest opinion. Constructed fairly sturdy, and are comfortable in the hand.
Buy these if you are looking for cheap, daily use rice bowls.
